d-Limonene

D-Limonene is a colourless liquid hydrocarbon classified as a cyclic terpene. The more common D isomer posesses a strong smell of oranges.^[1] It is used in chemical synthesis as a precursor to carvone and as a renewably-based solvent in cleaning products

d-Limonene is also widely used solvent and degreaser that is better than any of the following: mineral spirits, methyl ethyl ketone, acetone, toluene, glycol ethers and fluorinated/chlorinated organic solvents. You can use d-Limonene to rinse your open temperature bath or clean any of your lab equipment. Since d-Limonene is not water soluble you can use it in typical water separation units.

d-Limonene also works very well as a non-toxic, secondary heat transfer fluid with a closed loop operating temperature range from -100°F to 72°F. With its excellent thermo physical properties and wide temperature range of -100 oF to ambient d-Limonene has been used in systems around the world for process heating and cooling.

d-Limonene as a cleaner? This oil extracted from citrus rind is an excellent degreaser/solvent used in many of today's household cleaners. In industry d-Limonene is often used for cleaning systems that are dirty from other chemicals. d-Limonene replaces a variety of other cleaning chemicals such as Mineral Spirits, Methyl Ethyl Ketone, Acetone, Toluene, and Fluorinated and Chlorinated organic solvents.
